The Moffit collection largely consists of personal papers including: correspondence, newspaper clippings, college programs, certificates and diplomas, family and genealogy materials, scrapbooks containing recipes and poetry, photographs and materials related to Moffit's military service, including an announcement of a dinner commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Spanish-American War.

John T. Moffit was a lifelong resident of Cedar County, Iowa. He graduated from Cornell College in 1884 and from the University of Michigan Law School in 1886. He served for a number of years on the Board of Trustees of Cornell College and was awarded an honorary degree of Master of Law from the University of Michigan in 1936. He practiced law in Tipton, Iowa from 1886 until his promotion to judge of the Eighteenth Judicial District (Cedar, Jones and Linn Counties). He served as judge until his ...
